Hindi movies

There was a time.. when Dad used to say.. what music.. what lyrics "namma kaaladalli yeshtu chennagi ithu" ( it was so good in our times)... I used to just tease him off.. saying black n white... dance was like fits.. etc etc... though I agreed silently that in his times movies were good... Ofcourse there were quite a few not good films too.. but then that happens all the time...

So in our time also we had nice films.. I dont say no... The 80's and 90's movies were also pretty good.. It was a different generation... But still it had all the required ingredients of a hindi movie.. a nice family.. relationship..friendship..romance..violence..comedy... And ofcourse music was still good at these times...

And now... (its still our time.. but then).. just look at the movies...except for 2-3 movies out of 20-30 films in a yeat... none of them are somethings u would like to cherish... movies are not like u can hum their songs... none of them are like u can identify the characters within urself...

Other than a few exceptional movies
Friendship dunno whether they still have it in movies these days...
Relationships.... no way..
Comedy... cheap and double meaning dialogs...
Violence.. Yuk and disgusting..
Family...oops does that exist in today's society at all..
Romance... nothing mushy...nothing romantic... just !@#$#%%$^$&*@$%%@#^

Story - We dont need that.. we have heros who can fly planes.. and do stunts...Heroines who play nothing more than an ordinary object in the movie... just there for glamour...

Music - Who needs this.. when u can remix the old ones :)

Irritates a lot..when u dont feel like hearing the name of the movie once again...

PS: There a few exceptions to the above mentioned.. but again they are very few...which actually make u get involved in the movie... most recent RDB... loved it...

Hey...I liked the movie! Thought-provoking but at the same time unrealistic theme.....

Hey hey hey!!!
You seem to be really really upset with bollywood :).
But yea, there aren't many movies I'd wanna watch in theatre these days.

Chitra,
Thats true.. But still loved it... 1 of the reasons being Aamir Khan... :)
Realistic or unrealitic... atleast there was a theme..

Seema,
Well not upset about them... actually saw a couple recent movies..then saw movies a few years earlier.. the difference was so obvious.. :)

Hi Arthi,

I am a film student and I agree 100% with u. But u can have hopes for gud films in future as film making is getting more pvt with digital tech.

I am a Bangalorean too right now in Chennai.

Have a gud time and u have a good blog.

Cheers.

art.. well stress seems to be on quantity than quality these days with the movies.. vulgarity in action and words.. ya not long ago in 90s we had some good movies and all of a sudden now its a parade of stupid ones. watching movies isnt the same anymore (esp watching it with family)

yes u r 100% right...most Hindi movies these days r westernised and cater for an overseas audience when it should be to the ordinary Indian. I dun get that!

Keshi.

Smy,
Welcome back dear :)

Anon,
Well its not just technology which can make good movies.. It takes something else too. Hope u contribute ur best.

Viv,
hmm ya seems like that....

Keshi,
Well not just westernized.. that also would be fine... if they dont lose the sweetness or the emotions which they need to have

Hi Arthi,

I meant that since digital tech is gonna be accessible to the commonman, u can xpect many more sensible movies from sensible people.

Hi Aarthi,...just found time to key in more...

Indian films were and are star dominated. Stars manipulate so much in their favour and get scripts done and financiers ready and a million things take place for movies to be made to boost their star status and identity in the industry.

With the advent of Digital Cinema, the technology required for film making is easily accessible and any one among the common man who feels that he has a film maker in him can get a movie made by himself with quite a little money and the talent he has. Quite a lot of such film makers are springing up in Chenai, Hyderabad and Bangalore these days.

Check out Nagesh Kukunoor, though his films are not digital. He made HYDERABAD BLUES 8 yrs bck with just 18 lakhs and got his friends and relatives to act in it. This guy has guts to break rules.

BTW I did njoy the black and white classics and also the films made by Puttana Kannagal, Mani Ratnam, Balachander and many other HIndi films which I think ur dad would have referred.

The future is really BRIGHT for Indian cinema and I am sure that u will watch plenty of quality cinema in the coming years. I do belong to ur generation and u can hope for some good work from me..atleast I intend to do some.

U will certainly say ""namma kaaladalli yeshtu chennagi ithu" to ur generation next.

Barla...
Cheers
